      Simontornya Castle

In 1277, during the reign of King Ladislaus IV (Kun László), Simon, son of Salamon and royal judge, decided to build a tower here. The town’s name, Simontornya, comes from him. Later, Stephen Lackfi, Voivode of Transylvania, expanded the original tower into a castle. The castle reached its full Renaissance splendor before being transformed into a fortress and partially destroyed during the 150-year Ottoman occupation.
Today, the restored castle offers a unique experience with historical tours and an exhibition of period oil paintings showcasing noble families of Tolna County.

Nestled among the rolling hills of Tolna, the stunning town of Ozora is home to the Renaissance Ozorai Pipo Castle, built in 1416. With its distinctive inner courtyard and balconies, it resembles an Italian city palace of its era. The castle’s consecrated chapel still houses relics of Saint George.

      Dunaföldvár Castle

The most striking feature of Dunaföldvár Castle is its Renaissance tower rising high above the Danube, known as the Csonka Tower, Old Tower, or Turkish Tower. Originally serving as a watchtower, it later became a manor prison following the suppression of the freedom fight. The castle museum showcases Ottoman relics, while the prison features authentic graffiti from former outlaws—a true rarity.
